VP GLOBE

by Verner Panton, 1969

The world is a globe! For the pendant lamp VP GLOBE, designer Verner Panton combined a transparent acrylic glass sphere with partially chromed, partially red and blue painted metal elements. The Danish designer created the perfectly finished light object, which provides a glare-free, indirect light, between the years 1969 and 1970. Today, the unique pendant lamp is manufactured under license by the Danish company Verpan and is available in two sizes from the design interior specialist TAGWERC.

VP Globe

Without doubt, VP GLOBE recalls the era of Space Age, when technological achievements created the conditions for historical events. Already in the 1950s began, between the US and the Soviet Union, the race into space. The supposed, first moon landing on 21 July 1969 in the context of the American Apollo program, formed a climax. Architects and designers, influenced by the happenings, also dealed with space. So did designer Verner Panton, who conceived the VP GLOBE among his other designs.

But the VP GLOBE pendant lamp is not just about the epoch of departure and reorientation. At the VP GLOBE lamp, Verner Panton’s knowledge of the colour theory and the well-being aspect, which the living should consider in the opinion of the designer, can be recognized. So the VP GLOBE hanging lamp works with the contrasts of warm and cold. A blue painted reflector reflects the light coldly. At the same time, a red painted reflector reflects the light in warm tones. In addition, the bulb with a maximum of 75 watts is covered by the reflectors and thus emerges as an indirect, glare-free light.

Understandably, the VP GLOBE offers no basic lighting but a dreamy and accentuated mood light that illuminates the direct surroundings. Individually suspended in one corner or several lights in a row over dining table or counter – the pendant lamp VP GLOBE is extremely versatile and convertible. VP GLOBE – the world is a globe!
